STD Leakers Claim Fifth Straight WPL Industrial Title, Outpace Tractors in High-Octane Series
The Wapiti Players League’s Industrial Division Final ended in familiar fashion: the STD Leakers lifting the Nakoda Cup.
With a 3–1 series win over the Tractors, the Leakers secured their fifth consecutive WPL championship, further cementing their place as the league’s most dominant industrial-era franchise.
This wasn’t a story of luck or late-game heroics
the Leakers controlled the pace and set the tone early. Over four games, they piled up an incredible 26 goals, averaging 6.5 per game. The Tractors had their moments, including a convincing Game 3 win to extend the series, but ultimately couldn't keep up with the Leakers’ depth, puck movement, and scoring touch.
Brenan Jones and Andrew Buote led the charge offensively for the champs, combining for double-digit points and consistently breaking down the Tractors’ defensive structure. Their ability to generate from anywhere on the ice made life difficult for goaltender Justin Jarvis, who was left battling a relentless attack in nearly every game.
To their credit, the Tractors didn’t fold. Logan Mazerolle and John Tiede delivered strong individual efforts, and the team’s Game 3 win—a 7–4 offensive showcase—briefly shifted momentum. But defensive gaps and penalty trouble resurfaced in Game 4, and the Leakers capitalized, as they had all series.
Between the pipes, Greg Lewis gave the Leakers steady goaltending when they needed it most. While it was far from a low-event series, Lewis stayed composed and made key stops to keep the Tractors at arm’s length.
From a discipline standpoint, the Leakers played cleaner hockey, avoiding the types of breakdowns and misconducts that cost the Tractors at critical moments—most notably in Game 2.
For those who followed the regular season, the result tracks. The Leakers finished the year at the top of the Industrial standings, leading the division in goals and point production. That momentum carried straight into the postseason. You can see their full regular season stats here.
Bottom line: the series may have only lasted four games, but the Leakers once again left no doubt. Five straight titles. One clear standard. In the WPL’s Industrial Division, it still runs through the STD Leakers.
